Solar panel installations usually fall under “permitted developments,” meaning they can be installed without seeking formal approval from your local planning authority. However, there are exceptions:

- If you live in a conservation area, or an area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB), planning permission is likely to be required. There are over 300 conservation areas in Derbyshire alone.
